A club for everyone
who makes music.

Sarasota County has plenty of lessons, bands, and bar jams. What it did not have was one open, all-ages, genre-neutral place where musicians meet each other. This is that place.

Why we started

Meet your people.

Sarasota County Musicians Club is an in-person club where musicians from across the county meet once a month to network, learn from each other, and play together. It is for hobbyists, semi-pros, and pros in any genre and at any skill level. It is free, open to the public, and family-friendly.

The club does not teach lessons or run a band. It is the room where you find your teacher, your bandmates, your next gig, or just someone who is as into music as you are.

Who it is for

Adults of any age and any skill level, from anywhere in Sarasota County
Young musicians under 18, who are encouraged to come with a parent or guardian
Any instrument, voice, songwriting, production, or DJ interest
Listeners and supporters who want to be around live music
Teachers, shops, and venues, as attendees rather than sponsors

No auditions and no gatekeeping. Any genre, any level.

Family-friendly

Content and language stay family-friendly at every meeting.

Respect

For every genre, every skill level, and everyone's turn to play.

Jam etiquette

Everyone gets a turn. Beginners are encouraged. Listening is always fine.

Teach, don't sell

No sales, advertising, or tip jars at library meetings. Presenters share what they know.

We photograph or record only people who have agreed, and we ask parents or guardians for anyone under 18.

Before you come.

Is it really free?

Yes. All meetings through December 2026 are free. No dues, no tickets, and no sign-up needed to attend. Registering just gets you the free monthly newsletter.

Do I need to be good?

No. Beginners, hobbyists, semi-pros, and pros all belong here. There is no audition and no experience requirement. If you are curious about music, you are in.

Can I just listen?

Absolutely. Listeners and supporters are welcome at every meeting. Plenty of people come to meet musicians, hear the workshop, and enjoy the jam without playing a note.

What should I bring?

Yourself, and an instrument if you would like to play. The library's one ask is that we keep the volume reasonable, so acoustic instruments and small amps at a modest level are fine. Leave the full stack at home. The newsletter will say if anything changes for a particular meeting.

Can kids and teens come?

Yes. Young musicians under 18 are welcome and encouraged to come with a parent or guardian. The library asks that young children are not left unattended, and every meeting keeps family-friendly content and language.

What if I arrive late or have to leave early?

Come and go as you need to. Every meeting is built so that someone can walk in at any point and feel welcome. A greeter at the door will tell you what is happening and where to sit.

Why do the days and times change?

Meetings follow the library's room availability, so the day and time rotate between weekday evenings and a Saturday lunchtime. That also lets people with different schedules make at least some meetings. We are working on a regular monthly slot for 2027.

Can I sell gear or promote my lessons at a meeting?

Not at the library. Library rules prohibit sales and advertising on the premises, including tip jars. Guest presenters teach, they do not sell. You are welcome to swap contact details with people you meet.

Who runs this?

Sarasota County Musicians Club is an informal community group organized by David Graham, a Sarasota musician. It is for musicians from anywhere in Sarasota County, from North Port and Venice to Sarasota and Longboat Key. It is not affiliated with Sarasota County Libraries or Sarasota County Government.
